FOB Green  had three rewarding  days at the Recycling & Waste Management Exhibition at the NEC between 13 & 15 September 2011, renewing acquaintances, making new contacts and discussing potential opportunities.

The Exhibition brought together the major, Regulators, Providers, Developers, Contractors, Consultants and Equipment/Process Manufacturers under one roof to disseminate information on this important sector.

The mood of the exhibition was that the last 24 months had been tough with the changes to funding and regulation however the next year should see the commencement of a significant number of the large scale regional projects that will be a well needed shot in the arm for the construction industry.

  • The future is  likely to be in the smaller scale  projects  to serve their specific communities that are likely to engender local support.
  • The move is likely to be away from  mass incineration  towards what are perceived as more environmental /greener technologies
  • There is concern within the industry that some of the newer processes  are not proven, problematic  or simply do not deliver what it says on the tin.
  • There are numerous  projects on the drawing board that are being developed by the Private or Merchant Waste Contractors where there are significant commercial benefits in reducing the level of materials going to landfill.
  • It is likely that the majority of waste or recycling schemes will require to be considered  or be referred by Local Authorities to Regional or CABE design panel as a matter of course.
  • Rather than simplify the planning process as is proposed by the Government in their recent Planning Framework Review , projects are likely to require a more detailed environmental and design argument/ response even for the the small scale projects.

FOB Green have a wealth of experience in the waste to energy/recycling sector and can assist Clients in developing proposals to meet the requirements and achieve the support  of statutory bodies and stakeholders.
